PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving picture reproducing apparatus that prevents an output of a disturbed decoded image so as to prevent disturbed video data from being displayed on a display of a user side. SOLUTION: The moving picture reproducing apparatus is provided with a channel IF block 13 that applies channel control of a reception channel to receive a moving picture stream, a stream decoder block 12 that decodes the received moving picture stream and demultiplexes the decoded stream into video data and audio data, a video decoder block 11 that decodes the compressed video data demultiplexed with the stream decoder block 12 to provide an output of decoded video data, and a stop control block 14 that allows the video decoder block 11 to provide an output of a prescribed still picture when an abnormality is detected in at least either of the channel IF block 13 and the stream decoder block 12.
