PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-pressure discharge lamp with reduced deterioration in luminous intensity (luminous intensity attenuation) with lighting time of the low-pressure discharge lamp emitting ultraviolet rays of short wavelengths. SOLUTION: This low-pressure discharge lamp 50 emits ultraviolet rays of short wavelengths of about 200 nm or less with low-pressure mercury vapor, etc., sealed within a quartz glass tube 51. An aqueous quartz glass with an OH-group content of about 30 ppm or more is used as the glass tube 51, thereby reducing oxygen atoms liberated to the interior of the glass tube 51.
