PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively decrease or prevent a problem of color slippage. SOLUTION: The positions in sub-scanning direction of respective end parts on the beginning and terminating sides of an effective write-in width for a face to be scanned 8A located at one side of an optical deflection device 4 are denoted by SA(-) and SA(+) respectively. The positions in sub-scanning direction of respective end parts on the beginning and terminating sides of an effective write-in width for a scanned face 8B located at the other side of the optical deflection device 4 are denoted by SB(+) and SB (-), respectively, and the unit of the length is mm. An optical scanning is performed by inclining the scanning lines of respective deflected light beams toward main scanning direction in a way that TA and TB, defined by TA= SA(+)-SA(-) and TB=SB(+)-SB(-), respectively, satisfy the relation (1) 0< TA-TB<4×[V×Er/(Rp×M)] under the condition Er<1, where V (mm/sec) stands for the moving velocities of respective faces to be scanned, M stands for the number of the deflection reflection faces of an optical deflection device, Rp (revolution/sec) stands for the speed of revolution, Er stands for an effective scanning time interval rate.
