PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone adapter in which a plurality of general telephones can be connected automatically to the line of low telephone rate depending on the dial number and increase in the number of components and the cost due to increase in the number of general telephones can be suppressed as much as possible. SOLUTION: A control section 10 comprises means 113 for making a decision whether line sections 1-4 are in incoming state or outgoing state, a decision whether a plurality of portable telephones 5, 6 are busy or not and a decision whether the dial number outgoing from a general telephone is a portable telephone number or not when off hook of any one of general telephones 1a-4a is notified from the line section, and means 114 for connecting an off hook general telephone with the opposite telephone through any portable telephone in the case of a portable telephone number otherwise connecting the off hook general telephone with the opposite telephone through a corresponding general line.
