The electronic tag (10) is, for example, attached to a carrier (90) of a SIM card (88) and comprises a circuit for writing and reading whole or partial information identifying the card (88). The information relates to different stages of distribution of SIM card, e.g. a manufacturer series number, a serial number of the card, an international subscriber number or IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity), and a database identification number or HLR (Home Location Register). All the data is stored in a card memory called EF-ICC (Entry File - Integrated Circuit Chip). The tag can be attached to the mobile telephone handset in which case it will bear data identifying that handset. Independent claims are also included for a SIM card, mobile phone handset and packaging for the handset.
