The present invention relates to a polynucleotide encoding i) a potassium channel subunit or ii) a dominant negative potassium channel subunit, wherein the polynucleotide is capable of modulating an electrical property in a standard cardiac electrophysiological assay for preventing or treating cardiac arrhythmia or atrial fibrillation.
