The present invention relates to the use of new catalysts containing a metal-free cyclopentadienide compound and a transition-metal compound for the polymerization of unsaturated compounds, in particular of conjugated dienes. In this connection the use of methylaluminoxane (MAO) or of boron-containing compounds as co-catalyst can be dispensed with and nevertheless a high catalyst activity can be obtained.
