PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide metal coated abrasive grains, i.e., grit, more concretely, metal coated grit for improving the retaining ratio in saw blades. SOLUTION: Diamond grains are brought into contact with an alloy having the following composition: Ti(1-xCrx [in the formula, (x) lies in the range of about 0.005<=x<=0.5] at about <850 deg.C for a time sufficient for coating the diamond grains with the alloy, so that the diamond grains are coated with titanium metal to form a titanium metal coated diamond grain product. The obtained coated diamond grains have the average grain size in the range of about 5 to 800μm and is coated with metallic coating composed of an internal carbide layer having a high Cr content and an external layer having a low Cr content. The coating of the diamond crystals with the titanium metal by using the temperature in which deterioration in the toughness of the diamond crystals does not occur is possible, and further, its oxidation resistance is strengthened to reduce the breaking caused by oxidation of the Ti alloy coating. |
