The device and method for stretching a tension wire involve at least one positioning unit and at least one engagement unit both with engagement devices for gripping the outer end of the tension wire. A typical application is in a departmental store (1) with a joist (2) supported by two uprights (3). The joist supports a roof construction but also forms a support structure for tension wires (6,5) fitted at two different levels. One wire (5) is located at a lower level (7) in connection with the joist than the location (8) at which the other wire (6) is connected to the joist. Between the tension wires at two levels a screen material is fitteed to protect goods against direct solar radiation.
