SOLUTION: In this vehicle door latch device having the power closing mechanism for rotating a latch 6 for engaging with a striker 8 by motor motive power to a full latch position from a half latch position and the power opening mechanism for separating a ratchet 7 for holding an engaging state of the latch 6 and the striker 8 from the latch 6 by engaging with the latch 6 by the motor motive power, a motor for rotating the latch 6 to the full latch position from the half latch position and a motor for separating the ratchet 7 from the latch are formed as a common single motor 10.
