The security seal is in the form of a cable (14) in a preferably transparent plastic sleeve (15), encircling the body of a transport vehicle and having its two ends fastened by seals. The cable contains a central optical fibre (12), e.g. a multi-strand fibre, that can be connected to a tester to show whether the cable has been cut or broken during a journey.
