In vitro propagation of prions, useful for screening compounds for ability to reduce prion infection, on cultured glial cells

In vitro propagation of prions (A), the agents that cause transmissible spongiform encephalopathies, comprises infecting a culture (or line) of glial cells with (A). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) glial cell lines infected with (A) and able to propagate them; (2) assessing the ability of compounds, agents or compositions to reduce infectivity of (A); and (3) detection, and optionally quantification, of (A).
