PURPOSE: A propeller driving device for a ship is provided to minimize the damage on gears engaged with each other by having forward and backward gears selectively engaged with a drive shaft even if a clutch gear is excluded. CONSTITUTION: A driving device body receives the rotational force of an engine via a gear box. A drive shaft(33) connected with the output shaft of the gear box selectively rotates forward and backward gears(35,36) via a friction plate(37) and a disk(38). A driven shaft(40) is rotated by a driven gear(39) engaged with the forward and backward gears. A propeller shaft(54) is rotated forward and backward via bevel gears(42,43) of the driven gear. The forward and backward gears are engaged with the drive shaft only when a force is applied to the friction plate.
