DOT CODE AND DOT CODE READER

A dot code in which dots in the vertically adjacent dot lines are prevented from overlapping with one another and the code is reliably read and a dot code reader are disclosed. The dot code is a two-dimensional one. A printing unit prints the dots of the two-dimensional code every another line and in all the columns. The phase of the dots in one column differs from that in the adjacent columns. In such a way, when the code detected by measuring the density of the dots along a line, the phase of the waveform representing the density is different with line, and therefore the variation of line can be reliably recognized.
