An optical fiber array in which optical fibers are accommodated in V grooves formed in the upper side of a lower substrate, the lower substrate and the optical fibers are covered with an upper substrate, and the lower substrate, the optical fibers, and the upper substrate are secured to one another with adhesive, wherein the diameter of the optical fibers is smaller than the diameter of inscribed circles drawn between the lower side of the upper substrate and the V grooves, and the distance between the opposed planes of the lower and upper substrates ranges from 1 mu m to approximately half of the diameter of the optical fibers so as to well bond the lower and upper substrates and prevent stress concentration on the optical fibers.
