The short stroke press has a stand in which press plates with press sheets are supported by pressure cylinders and reciprocating push rods. There are several hydraulic cushioning units (6) between the push rod (3) and the upper press plate (5), distributed across and along the pressing surface. These units consist of oil-filled cylinders (14) and pistons (13).
