摘要 A method for producing a metal or a metal compound, such as niobium or tantalum, from a raw material containing the metal through a process of treating with fluorine using a solution containing hydrofluoric acid, characterized in that an adjusted raw material comprising a raw material of the metal or metal compound and, blended therewith as an additive, a material insoluble in hydrofluoric acid or in a mixed acid containing hydrofluoric acid as an essential component is used in a step dealing with an ore or a concentrate, or alternatively, said insoluble material is added to a solvent in the process of treating with fluorine, to thereby increase the amount of an extraction residue and thus control the ratio of a radioactive material being present in the residue to a desired value. The method can be used for the purpose of preventing the concentration of a radioactive material in an extraction residue by-produced.
