<p>A laundry appliance (10) comprises a container (100, 102, 103, 1049 for retaining liquid during a wash cycle. A drum (120) for retaining laundry is rotatably mounted within the container about a rotational axis. The container has an opening to allow the introduction of laundry into the drum (120) and a door (42, 62) for closing the opening in the container. A portion of the opening in the container is defined by a rigid throat portion (110) of the container which extends in a direction axially outwardly from the drum (120) and provides a surface over which laundry can be unloaded from the drum (120). The container (100) is formed as a cylindrical housing (102) and an end face (104) which is secured to the cylindrical housing (102) by bolts (108). A seal (106) is supported by the end face (104) and acts radially outwards against the inner surface of the cylindrical housing (102).</p> |
