A monitoring unit comprises a transmitter unit that is located near the person to be monitored, e.g. a baby. The transmitter unit comprises a housing and a movable arm 9, pivotally mounted to the housing at one end and towards the other end, supporting a microphone. The arm 9 operates a switch to automatically switch-off power to the unit when the arm 9 is lowered into the housing and to switch-on power when the arm is raised. The microphone produces an output indicative of noise made by the person and an antenna, preferably located within the arm 9, transmits to a receiver an output signal including information indicative of the microphone output. Sound holes 10 that allow sound to reach the microphone, are preferably positioned on only one side of the arm 9 so that they are covered when it is lowered. |
