Method of, and apparatus for, reducing the power consumption of a bluetooth device

A method is provided for reducing the power consumption of a Bluetooth device (B) having an RF transceiver (1), a link controller (2) and link manager software. The method first disables the periodic page scan activity of the Bluetooth device (B). It then senses when said Bluetooth device (B) sends an inquiry response signal to another Bluetooth device in response to an inquiry received from that other Bluetooth device. The periodic page scan activity of the Bluetooth device (B) is then enabled for a predetermined period 8 in response to the sending of the inquiry response signal. Finally, the transceiver of the Bluetooth device (B) is enabled for communication with that other Bluetooth device if a page scan results in the transmission of a page signal by the Bluetooth device (B).
