The method includes exerting a braking force having a certain predetermined characteristics, and detecting whether the vehicle is still in motion by means of sensors, and if it is still in motion, exerting a further braking force to slow this vehicle, or if the vehicle is stationary, exerting a braking force to maintain the vehicle in a stationary position. An onboard computer is programmed to put these steps in motion. The exchange of information between the different elements is facilitated by a communication bus e.g. CAN type bus.
