Method for absorbing compounds using zeolites

The present invention is directed to methods for selective and reversible absorption of compounds, particularly gases, in zeolites. The method of the invention is based on the flexibility of the zeolite framework. It was found that the absorption selectivity of a zeolite can be controlled by deforming the zeolite, in particular the windows that provide access to the internal micropore structure. Preferably this deformation is carried out by applying an external mechanical force to the zeolite. The method of the invention provides for an improvement with respect to selectivity, energy requirement, and/or freedom of choice in absorption processes using zeolites.
