The method and installation are for cooling fish catches in fishing boats. It involves taking on board prior to sailing of fresh water which is placed into tanks. During the outward voyage coarse ice is prepared on board, when is then crushed mechanically and fed to the water as flow ice, reducing the water temperature to the requisite level. The fish catch is then placed in the water in the tanks.
