PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment method for a cooling water system capable of effectively preventing such a phenomenon that phosphonic acid or an azole compound used for preventing the corrosion of the cooling water system is oxidatively decomposed by hydrobromide or the like, which is added to an aqueous system as a slime control agent, to be lowered in its capacity. SOLUTION: In the water treatment method for the cooling water system, a 5,5-dialkylhydantoin compound is added to the cooling water system, in which 0.1 mg/L or more of a corrosion inhibitor and 0.1 mg/L or more of hypobromous acid or a salt or bromide thereof are present, in an amount of 1 weight times or more of the concentration of an oxidizing agent measured as total residual chlorine.
