PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus which can select an appropriate restoring means by storing an actual state of generation of a carriage driving error and a pump driving error to a storage means. SOLUTION: The carriage driving error or the suction pump driving error is identified at a central control means 61 with the utilization of an output of a first encoder 63 which controls a position of a carriage 1 and an output of a second encoder 64 which controls a position of a motor 23 for driving a suction pump 10. When either driving error state is generated, an error counter 67 counts up and error information is written to an EEPROM 66. Then, the recording apparatus is controlled to drive appropriately in accordance with the error generation state when a driving power source is supplied to the recording apparatus.
