PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply an automatic brake without giving a sense of incongruity to a driver by gently increasing an output during operation of the automatic brake without impairing responsiveness. SOLUTION: A second air vent valve 16 to be opened/closed by using an input shaft 26 is provided on the rear side of a conventional valve mechanism 15. An air chamber E is partitioned with and formed between the second air vent valve 16 and a first air vent valve 25 for the valve mechanism 15. The air chamber E is communicated with the atmosphere via an orifice 29 passing through a second air vent valve element 27 of the second air vent valve 16 or an orifice 29 passing through a retainer 50. Driving means such as a solenoid 54, constituting this automatic brake power assist 1 makes the first air vent valve 25 open and then the second air vent valve 16 open. During operation of the automatic brake, a cylindrical member 63 is left moved relative to a valve plunger 18 by the solenoid 54 to make the first air vent valve 25 open at first. At this time, the output of the assist 1 is gently increased because the air is supplied from the orifice 29. Then, the second air vent valve 16 is also made open, resulting in the output to be quickly increased. |
