PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an ink jet recording apparatus compact, speed up printing and make monochromic printing faster in speed than color printing. SOLUTION: There are provided a first ink discharge opening group for discharging a first color ink, a second ink discharge opening group for discharging a second color ink and a third ink discharge opening group for discharging a third color ink. The second and the third ink discharge opening groups are set nearly in series. The number of ink discharge openings included in the first ink discharge opening group is made larger than the number of ink discharge openings included in any of the second and the third ink discharge opening groups. Monochromic printing can be made faster in speed than color printing by setting the number of nozzles of a black ink of a high use frequency larger than the number of nozzles of a color ink.
