REGENERATIVE METHOD AND COMPOSITION FOR REMOVING SULFIDES FROM GAS STREAMS

A method and composition for the removal of sulfides from gaseous streams. T he method includes contacting the sulfide-containing gas stream with an aqueous scavenging mixture which includes a scavenging compound, an inorganic ion an d an oxidation catalyst: regenerating at least a portion of the scavenging compound with an oxygen-containing gas and returning at least a portion of t he aqueous scavenging mixture to the contacting zone. A scavenging compound consisting of the reaction product between an aldehyde and an amine is also provided.
