PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner capable of preventing filter loading from being neglected, or a filter unit capable of easily eliminating clogging. SOLUTION: A filter unit 20 unremovably containing a filter 24 in a case 21 is detachably arranged in the body 10 of a vacuum cleaner 1. The filter 24 can be compressed by a filter compressor 25 disposed in the case 21. The filter compressor 25 is restored to its original state by the elasticity of the filter 24. Otherwise, it is restored to its original state by an elastic means other than the filter. When the filter unit 20 is not at a predetermined position in a filter storage room 30, a filter unit detector 35 keeps the door 32 of the filter storage room 30 open. Otherwise, a filter unit detector 40 prohibits the operation of an electric blower 12. Otherwise, a display 35 issues a warning.
