PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus which can prevent the erroneous fitting of an ink housing container to the printing apparatus by simple structure and the ink housing container. SOLUTION: In the printing apparatus 1 having an ink housing container holding means 6 which positions/holds the ink housing container 14 housing ink freely attachably/detachably, recessed parts 24a, 24b, 24c, and 24d are formed at different positions of a part of the outer surface of the container 14, and the means 6 has a plurality of protruded parts 15 which can engage with the recessed parts 24a, 24b, 24c, and 24d respectively are formed.
