PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning work for removing pollutants from soil polluted with volatile organic substances without fail within a short time irrespectively of the gas permeability of the soil. SOLUTION: This work consists of excavating the ground polluted with volatile organic substances, adding a foaming agent and an alkalifying agent to the soil from excavation, mixing them to allow the soil to generate a hydrogen gas to improve its gas permeability, utilizing the heat of reaction to promote the gasification of pollutants from the soil, bringing the mixed soil with an improved gas permeability into contact with external air to remove the gasified pollutants from the polluted soil.
