PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hollow oxide superconductor having excellent electric characteristic, magnetic characteristic and mechanical strength, and to provide a method of producing such oxide superconductor at a low cost. SOLUTION: This method of producing a hollow oxide superconductor comprises the steps of heating a mixed raw materials of RE compound (RE represents one or more rare earth metal element including Y), Ba compound and Cu compound to a temperature higher than the melting point of the mixed raw materials to melt, and cooling slowly to allow grain growth to produce RE-Ba-Cu-O oxide superconductor, where a cylindrical precursor and a plate- shaped precursor of a size capable of closing the open mouth of the cylindrical precursor are produced from the mixed raw materials, the plate-shaped precursor is placed upon the cylindrical precursor, and these precursors are heated to melt and cooled slowly to allow grain growth from the plate-shaped precursor toward the cylindrical precursor.
