<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a life controlling method for a composite tool capable of properly controlling the service life of the composite tool provided with a plurality of inserts. SOLUTION: In this composite tool 21 capable of executing the turning work and the milling work by independently or selectively simultaneously using the plurality of inserts 22, 23, 25, 26, the service life of the composite tool is determined by integrating work time elements UT, LN by each insert, and when the expiration of the service life of at least one insert is determined, the expiration of the service life of the composite tool including the insert on which the expiration of the service life is determined, is determined. The working by the combination tool can be immediately stopped when the service life of one insert is expired, which prevents the impairing of the working accuracy caused by the continuous use of the insert of which the service life is expired.
