PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for optical material having high heat- resistance, low birefringence, small photoelastic coefficient, high optical transparency and high toughness, an optical material, a method for producing the composition and a liquid crystal display device and LED produced by using the composition. SOLUTION: An optical material is produced by preparatorily mixing a composition for optical material containing (A) an organic compound having an organic skeleton containing >=2 C-C double bonds reactive with SiH group in one molecule, (B) a silicon compound containing >=2 SiH groups in one molecule and (C) a hydrosilylation catalyst as essential components, thereby reacting the C-C double bond reactive with SiH group in the composition with at least a part of the SiH group to effect the curing of the composition.
