PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing a hydrazodicarbonamide used industrially as a polymerization auxiliary after oxidized to azodicarbonamide. SOLUTION: This method for producing hydrazodicarbonamide of formula I comprises reaction between an aliphatic ketone of the general formula II and ammonia under pressure to form the corresponding ketimine of the general formula III, which is then oxidized with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst to form the corresponding ketazine of the general formula IV, which is then reacted together with urea and water in the presence of a catalyst (in the general formulas II, III and IV, R1 to R4 are each H, an alkyl, cycloalkyl or the like).
