PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type optical element comprising a transparent substrate having incidence and outlet planes of light together with at least one reflection plane for an internal reflection of light, which is improved in durability and sustainability to environment. SOLUTION: This method comprises forming dielectric layers on each incidence and outlet planes of light in a transparent substrate, and forming a metal layer on all the residual surfaces except the incidence and outlet planes of light in the transparent substrate.
