PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detoxify an organic contaminant in halide ion-containing wastewater in an extremely high efficient manner at a low cost without generating a harmful byproduct. SOLUTION: A wastewater treatment method comprises the steps of bringing wastewater, which contains the organic contaminant along with halide ions, into contact with a porous material, replacing wastewater adsorbed by the porous material with fresh water and chemically decomposing the organic contaminant adsorbed by the porous material.
