PURPOSE: To surely prevent long foreign matter such as a weed sucked by a cooling fan from being caught by a crankshaft so as to surely avoid damage of an oil seal in an engine for work. CONSTITUTION: In the engine for work, a bearing 9 for supporting a crankshaft 5 and the oil seal 10 adjacent to the outside of the bearing 9 are attached on the outer wall side of a crank case 2, and the cooling fan 16 is installed on an outer end part of the crankshaft 5. A protection cylinder part 22 for surrounding an end part of a boss 16a of the cooling fan 16 is formed on an outside wall of the crank case 2, and the foreign matter beating piece 23 adjacent to an outer peripheral surface of the protection cylinder part 22 is formed on the cooling fan 16.
