PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for error correction code decoding wherein, when soft-input and soft-output decoding is applied to repetitive decoding, the decoding characteristics are not degraded even if a low margin is set for backward processing at the boundaries between blocks. SOLUTION: The method for error correction code decoding is a decoding method wherein a specified decoding process is repeated and received words are thereby decoded. In the method, received words are divided into blocks. The method for division into blocks is determined according to what is the number of times of the specified repetition of decoding is and the soft-output values of information symbols are generated from prior distribution values, equivalent to the reliability of received words and the information symbols of received words.
