PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To represent the erasing position of a code appropriately through a simple arrangement of small circuit scale. SOLUTION: A soft output decoding circuit 90 in an element decoder comprises a receiving value and an apriori probability selection circuit 154 which selects information required for soft output decoding out of a decoded receiving value TSR and external information or interleave data TEXT. The selection circuit 154 replacing a position where no code output exist due to puncture by a symbol of '0' likelihood based on internal erase position information IERS provided from an internal erase information generating circuit 152. More specifically, the selection circuit 154 outputs such information as the probability that a bit corresponding to the position where no code output exist is '0' or '1' is '1/2'.
