PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device which can display disk information such as the quantity consumed of a medium and the capacity of an empty medium, alone, without connecting it to host apparatuses such as a computer. SOLUTION: When an arm 5 is on a ramp 8 after a head is unloaded, the arm 5 is controlled while reading arm positional information from an arm angle position detecting means 7 to move and fix the arm 5 on the intended position on the ramp. At this time, the information such as the quantity consumed of the medium of the magnetic disk device, is expressed by the position of the arm 5 on the ramp 8.
