PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve the problem, where when a block read cannot be used for reading information from a configuration ROM, the number of times of issue of a quadrate read requirement is increased, the processing efficiency of a device for issuing the requirement is decreased, the occupancy rate for 1394 serial bus due to the requirement is increased, and the processing speed via the 1394 serial bus is deteriorated. SOLUTION: Information stored in the configuration ROM region in the device is read (S1-S8). When the same information as that of the configuration ROM is stored in an address region (region capable of block reading), different from the configuration region (S13), offset is changed (S12) on the basis of the read information, and the same information as that of the configuration ROM is read (S2-S8).
