PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of a piezoelectric transformer utilizing a plane spread oscillation mode, remove spurious causing the loss increase and improve the degree of design freedom according to the step-up ratio and the power efficiency. SOLUTION: The transformer comprises input electrodes 2, 3 on lengthwise one side of a piezoelectric ceramic board 1 having a rectangular main surface of a length L and a width W and an output electrode 6 on the end face of the opposite side. Each input electrode is about half the length L and L/W is 1.2-1.6.
