PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DHCP server in which a traffic of IP address assignment extension request is reduced and the IP address is not wasted even if a DHCPRELEASE message could not be transmitted due to abnormal stop. SOLUTION: In the DHCP server incorporating an address assignment data base and assigning an IP address and a use limit thereof to a DHCP client on a network, an assignment start time and an assignment end time are registered in the address assignment data base and an IP address use limit being assigned is set equal to the time from the assignment start time to the assignment end time.
