<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently transmit a fixed-length cell and a variable length packet in the same transmission path, while allowing them to coexist. SOLUTION: A transmitter 4 transmits a variable length packet from a packet network 2 to a coexisting network 3, by adding a header corresponding to the protocol of the coexisting network to the variable length packet. Also, the transmitter 4 transmits a fixed length cell from a fixed length cell network 1 to the coexisting network 3 by removing a cell header, and adding a header corresponding to the protocol of the existing network instead. Moreover, the transmitter 4 judges whether data with a header from the coexisting network 3 are the fixed length cell or the variable length packet, transmits the fixed length cell to the fixed length cell network 1 by replacing the header of the coexisting network with the cell header, and transmits the variable length packet to the packet network 2, by removing the header of the coexisting network.</p> |
