PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to sense whether an original has images on both sides or on just one side thereof. SOLUTION: An image density histogram regarding read out image data is prepared to recognize that there is a set off, in other words, the original has images on both sides when the peak count of the image density histogram is beyond a predetermined value.
