PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit efficient data recording operation without lowering accessibility while appropriate recording power is obtained. SOLUTION: When write sequence is started (S100-S103), the recording operation at a sector unit is normally finished (S104), and further when a calibration flag is not raised (S105), the data recorded on a calibration sector are reproduced (S111) to calculate (S112) an asymmetric value. Then, the present state (appropriateness of recording power) is discriminated (S116) on the basis of the asymmetric value, and the power calibration is carried out (S117) when the recording power is not adequate and the power calibration should be immediately carried out. Thus, after the recording at the sector unit is performed, the present state is discriminated and the power calibration is carried out step by step at need.
