TAPE DRIVE AND SERVO SYSTEM STABILIZING METHOD THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize a servo system in a tape drive system for performing the reading/writing operation of the tape by inserting a tape cartridge into a tape drive independently of the combination of the drive and the cartridge. SOLUTION: The coefficient of a low-pass filter for the servo control of the tape drive is reset in accordance with the inserted tape cartridge for every insertion of the tape cartridge into the tape drive. To put it concretely, a servo pattern being recorded on the tape of the tape cartridge inserted to the tape drive is read out, the frequency of this read out servo pattern is analyzed, a singular point exceeding the prescribed spectral range is detected from the frequency component obtained by this frequency analysis, and then the coefficient of the low-pass filter is set so as to negate the power spectrum of this singular point.
