PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image decoding apparatus capable of suitably processing reproducing/stopping of an image by a protection of a copyright or the like of the image. SOLUTION: A method for decoding the image comprises the steps of inputting image data encoded by adaptively using encoding mode-in-display and inter-screen encoding mode and security data for protecting the image data, judging whether reproducing of the encoded image data is allowed or not based on the security data by a security decoder 1009, deciding the encoding mode of the encoded image data by a header decoder 104, decoding the input image data, storing the decoded image data in a frame memory 114, and controlling reading of the image data stored in the memory 14 by a frame memory controller 113 in response to the judged result and the encoded mode decision result. |
