PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide angle scanning television which corrects an image distortion due to a defect of a lens, an angle distortion due to wide angle scans of the lens movement and in particular distortion of a composite image or an assembly image composed of a plurality of partial images using electronic technology and minimizes the distortion. SOLUTION: A photoelectron detector 1 has a lens translational mechanism including X translational device 101 and Y translational device 102 capable of fine driving adjustment. The lens is moved so that a real image formed by the lens on a sensor array SP seen through a lens L and the image on the SP is translated as well. An image data obtained in this way is transmitted to a computer 2 via a data line 12. The input image data are transformed from rectangular coordinates into spherical coordinates, corrected to remove the distortion by a software downloaded from a diskette 206 and are juxtaposed on a virtual spherical surface to form composite virtual images. If discontinuity between areas of juxtapposed images remains, they are corrected using smoothing algorithm, the images are displayed on a flat display screen 210 using the inverse algorithm when virtual spherical images are formed. |
